Off The Top Of My Head
Just Some Thoughts
By Jerry Evans
So many things happen so fast. It seems like just yesterday that we were getting through Christmas and preparing for our January conferences. God blessed in many ways and after spending what seems like 6 months on the road Jackie and I are finally home. We have had the privilege of speaking with many of you as we have been involved in many of your conferences.
Sad news came for many of us in April as we got the word that our great friend and former bass singer for the Cathedral Quartet, George Younce, had gone to be with the Lord. I don't ever recall seeing George when he wasn't smiling. One of my favorite memories of George was probably the first time the Cathedrals sang for us at one of our conferences. It was at the old PTL Barn and we had about 400 Music Ministers there. The group had performed for about 20 minutes and then asked the registrants to sing a chorus of a song with them as they sang. We had some pretty good basses at that conferences and as we begin singing George got this stunned look on his face and when we finished he looked at the audience and said he was going to the bus and get a knife and cut the throat of every bass there!! We all cracked up because we knew that we had impressed the master. George, you blessed us all and to say that we'll miss you would be a terrible understatement.
At J & J this past month brought another bit of bad news. Jo Ann Hudson, our bookkeeper for the past 15 years had a heart attack and stroke and had to resign. Jo Ann had to go back into the hospital later in April. This time the doctors found that she had advanced stages of cancer. We began to get the news early in May that she probably would never be able to leave the hospital. No matter how much we prepared ourselves, we could simply not seem to get ready for the days ahead. In God's own time he took her home. May 13, at about 3:15 in the morning, she saw Jesus. Those of us who knew her best are convinced that she met Him smiling. She was loved and appreciated by all of the J & J family. She was quiet, efficient, and ALWAYS had that smile. J & J Music will never be the same with Jo Ann gone. Please pray for us and for her family as we try to get use to living without her bodily presence. The heavens are brighter today because a family member has come home.
I don't want to spend this entire article giving you bad news. I pray that you will take time to read the article by Dr Jay Strack on "Do Christian Values Belong in Our Culture?
We at J & J are going to be partnering with Dr. Strack and his group on the Creative Outbreak Week, in an effort to bring the Arts back to the church with excellence. I pray that will become a major part of your prayer life and that you will help us by recommending to your technical and creative people to come to the conference. You will be hearing much more about this in the coming days.
J & J is going through major transitions right now. The first of May we transferred everything to a new computer program. Our history with new computer programs has not been one where we get too excited about the process. So far this one has been just the way the computer people said it would. It is providing us much new technology so that hopefully we can provide you with many new services. Sometime around the first of June we will start a whole new Website. We are looking forward to having inventory on line and sending you an e-mail whenever we ship an order which will include the tracking number so that you can see exactly where your package is at any time. They tell me that we will have many other services available to us in order to provide you with even better service.
Pray for us as we go through these difficult times that God will strengthen us and make us better servants to serve you.
