From My Heart To Yours
Ten Things I Learned From Babbie
By Jackie Evans
Those of you who know me know I rarely ever have deep profound thoughts of my own. I have to use someone else's and usually wind up thinking something like, "That's great, and so simple. Why couldn't I have thought of it?"
That's the way I felt when reading one of Babbie Mason's books, "Treasures of Heaven in the Stuff of Earth." The chapters are short (which keeps my attention from wandering) and each leaves the reader with a great thought.
Out of the 48 chapters, I decided to select ten things that spoke to me and pass them on to you. The chapters surrounding these statements are sometimes funny, sometimes thought provoking and always filled with the great stuff that makes up life so without further rambling, here goes…
Appreciate your spouse. For each thing that irritates you, find the humor in it. View personality differences as part of God's plan to mold your lives together into one unit that can be used for Him. We are not to try to change each other but love and appreciate our differences.
We don't have to fit the stereotypical image of a missionary to actually be a missionary. What we really have to do is be ready if God provides us with an opportunity and answer with, "Yes, Lord."
God knows me by name...He knows my needs and is preparing for them even before I know I even have a need.
Don't try to pass judgment on others or you might find yourself in the same situation as the person you criticized; and you might be embarrassed by your predicament.
When God forgives, we truly become a new creature and are washed white as snow; able to start a new life without the baggage of our past.
Temptation is inevitable and is all around us but God has offered us a way of escape. Escape to Him, for He is our strong tower.
God works best when our backs are against the wall and we have depleted all our resources. He is the God who makes a miracle out of our mess.
When difficulties or bad circumstances come in our lives, they are tests of our faith. I can say to myself, "This is a test…This is only a test." Studying and applying the Word of God will help overcome life's challenges. God has already provided us a way of escape
In times of trouble, just whispering the name, "Jesus" brings miraculous results.
God is interested in even the smallest details of our lives. We are never out of His care and He can always find a messenger to send to us…even a tiny loud mosquito
Babbie's finding Treasures of Heaven in the Stuff of Earth makes us take a serious look at what things are really important to us. "Thanks, Babbie, for helping us focus on what is real."
Grateful for His Faithfulness,
Jackie
