We Have A Winner
By Gary Morris
Jim Reynolds, Minister of Music & Senior Adults, Houston River Baptist Church, Sulphur, LA, won the TV/VCR combo by random drawing that took place on November 15! Many thanks to Jim and the other 444 entrants who completed our online survey in our "Get The Picture" contest.
Speaking of drawings, I'm reminded to tell you that we have another Communicator exclusive-Ask David T. Clydesdale-a contest where you, the reader, gets to ask DTC anything you want. We will select the top ten, which, in turn, will be published along with the contributors' names. PLUS-We will award those top ten contributors with two David T. Clydesdale piano performance CDs: Grand Keyboard Classics and Christmas Keyboard Classics! You can see page 34 for the scoop, plus a great interview with David, who is celebrating his 10th Anniversary with Word Music.
Wow! My how time flies when you're having fun...and meeting deadlines!
Now I don't know about you, but 2002 has been a bit of a blur for me. It's hard to believe that there are just a few more days left in this year. There have been many exciting things to take place this year: New challenges, new babies (Three at J&J Music!), new friends, and new opportunities to serve the Lord.
As we see 2002 come to a close and 2003 no longer looming on the horizon but TOWERING in our face, we look back fondly and ahead excitedly, for 2003 marks J&J Music's 25th anniversary!
Those of you who will be attending our January conferences-especially the San Antonio conference-are in for some real special treats, as we kick off 2003 right, with Worship America 2003-a Church Music/Leadership/Worship Extravaganza! If you're not already registered, DO IT NOW! You will be sorry you did not go when you learn of the blessings you will have robbed yourselves of by not attending the greatest choral music/worship experiences in the United States of America!
St. Francis of Assisi said, "Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words." Our Cover Story in this issue features a man who does just that, with a flair. Wesley Dickmann, an incredibly humble, gifted man, preaches the gospel through canvas and oil paint, with a little bit of personal testimony and song. His artistic evangelism has been dubbed "The Silent Sermon," and I know you will want to read his story (and perhaps have him come and minister in your church.) I also included a few photographs of his artwork which is absolutely stunning.
Keith McClung caught me off guard this issue. Just when you think you have a guy figured out, he goes and throws you a curve! Well, that's a good thing for guys like me. But a multisensory worship experience? I've never given it much thought, have you? Well, that's the point-the efforts tend to be concentrated on audio and visual. But most of us are blessed with five senses (okay, we southpaws have six!) and the world outside our places of worship certainly knows how to capitalize on all of them. Read Keith's article and let it settle down into your mind. It's good stuff, and makes perfect "sense."
What do golf and quilts have in common? Well, aside from possibly some good jokes, Derric Johnson's Food for Thought article explains it pretty nicely, as well as giving us some good points to live by. As he so aptly puts it, "However tough life may be...it's better than the alternative." Amen, brother!
Get ready for Ray Boltz and his new CD by checking out Just A Little Talk With...Ray. Discover what Ray's been up to these past four years since his last project (of original songs). Songs From The Potter's Field is being heralded as one of Ray's best projects of his career. And don't just stop with reading the interview...get the CD, you'll be glad you did!
Our New Music Preview is just loaded with new releases for Easter, and beyond, and there are some very interesting pieces for you to preview. I would also encourage you to make J&J OnLine-www.jjonline.com-your first and last stop on the internet for music and music ministry resources. Plus, you can look up back issue of The Communicator here, register for Worship America conferences, and in general keep abreast of what's happening in the ministry and industry. That's why we call it the "Worship Leader's Home on the 'Net."
